2015 Multlistrada 1200S not able to connect to COM port

Post by RC51Owner »

Hello Jpdiag,

so I am trying to connect to my 2015 Multistrada 1200S using a Lonelec LEDC0416 Ducati diagnostic port adapter cable to OBDII connector. I have tried two different connection types - one a USB A connection to male OBDII port from Lonelec.com. The other a ELM 327 mini Bluetooth device. I have used the USB cable to talk to my Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200NTX in the past and used the BT device to talk to my cars OBDII ports. Both are connections use the previously mentioned LEDC0416 cable. In the first case the Windows 11 driver is label COM3 and the BT device creates two separate COM ports - COM4 and COM5.

When I try to connect to COM3 port (USB connection) I get that "can't init elm!". I have changed the port speed on my laptop to be 38400 to match the default with MelcoDiag (version 2.0.5.2). Here is a screen capture:

When I attempt to use COM4 (COM5 times out), I get the following error:

I am concerned that due to both approaches using the "Ducati OBDII" cable from Lonelec and failing that it is the cause of the inability to connect problem.

What steps can I do to further troubleshoot this?

BTW I tried two separate laptops trying to get this to work. Both laptops are running Windows 11 and as such the drivers for the USB are automatically installed. The BT dongle is a bit confusing but I ended up download the FTDI driver set. When using BT there are two COMM ports created and they come and go in the Device Manager based on whether the bike's ignition is on. Both drivers properties claim that they are working

Mark

Well I ordered a different Bluetooth obdii device - bluescan II frome Lonelec and can now connect to my bike and received the license. Unfortunately the service reset does not stick.

My bike shows two annual service intervals buttons.

Hitting either of them does not reset the service interval light I can see communication happening on the Bluetooth dongle and it takes a time to complete the request but neither works.

What am I going wrong?

Is it a 10sw software ? If yes , it need a secure access to the ecu with a key I don’t have the algorithm yet. So it’s not compatible

I don’t see the report neither the 1st page

The first message was from when I couldn't connect. Let me grab a screen shot of the connection page with the ECU information and share that.

So it’s a 10sw
Check the different discussions about 10sw on here

I tried the date trick of setting the bike's date to the future and then performing the resets. That didn't work. One thing I noticed is that the display on the dash doesn't change to the service interval information that is displayed in this message:

viewtopic.php?p=3540#p3540

I think my bike might be one of those with 10SW FW that cannot be updated.

Reviewing the information I sent for the license request I see that I had the Service Indicator On button set to Off when in-fact on my bike it is on. Will this make a difference to the license I receive?
