Not detecting VIN

Post by HuskyChuckle »

Hi All,

Having so much trouble getting connected with my bike - i'm hoping that someone has seen this before and can help!

Running:

2013 Diavel
Dell XPS13
OBDLink EX

A brief bit about my problem:

I can connect to the cable fine (115200 bps - any bike) - the startup process stalls at retrieving VIN. I assume there's a timeout in there, because after that goes off I'm in melcodiag fine. I can read DTCs, but i get a BUS_OFF error returned against each DTC that comes back.

U1601 [BBS] CAN line error (BUS OFF) is listed against each dtc returned.

I can clear DTCs. I can execute some active tests (i.e. turn fans on etc etc).

When I try to clear service light - melcodiag becomes unresponsive. I have to close it to continue experimenting.

Interestingly, when i choose the other option (m3c, m3d...), and clear service light, that seems to work just fine, but I get a BBS DTC light up on my dash. I can't read it in this mode, other mode detects the dtc, but I can't tell what the DTC is because of the BUS_OFF error.

Here's my log:

you'r not the 1st one saying it become unresponsive after pressing reset button.
i haven't reproduce it yetbut for sure it's on my todo list
but you may be gave me a good tips , that's happening when no VIN is found.

With old system like yours , which i presume is a 2012 ,i don't know yet how to grab the vin.
so the software don't know what reset command to send. it could be the desmo command instead the oil command.
you can ty both

i strongly recommand you to not switch to m3c ecu ,cause it can have severe issue on your bike configuration.
